THE PROBLEM

POVERTY, HUMAN TRAFFICKING & HOPELESSNESS

Cambodia is among the third world countries facing enormous obstacles created by poverty, institutional corruption and extreme types of exploitation, like human trafficking and slavery. Recent generations of Cambodians have endured war, genocide, and oppression, leaving families devastated and displaced. Many of their daily realities are our worst nightmares:

 

  • Men, women, and children are trafficked for labor and sexual exploitation. According to HumanTrafficking.org, “ECPAT Cambodia reports that as many as one-third of trafficking victims in prostitution are children.” Even more startling, 47% are trafficked by their mothers.

  • Approximately 4 million people live on less than $1.25 per day. 

  • Over half the population is under the age of 25.

  • 37% of children, under the age of 5, suffer from chronic malnutrition. 

THE SOLUTION

FREEDOM THROUGH BUSINESS:
CHANGING THE WAY THEY VIEW THE WORLD 

In 2010, we built a place of business and employment. A place to have a job and also a refuge from corruption and exploitation. Paying a fair wage gives our staff members the ability to provide for their basic needs and access social services. Inspired by God’s attributes, we called it Divine Pizza & Ribs:

  • DPR operated in Phnom Penh, exemplifying ethical business practices as a visible witness to Christian ideals.

  • With empowerment as the foundation for daily activities,  DPR has helped numerous families establish a stable way of life.

  • We provided employment, vocational skills training and access to medical services enabling families to live better and women to give birth in a safe place.

  • We utilized a holistic approach to equip our employees physically, emotionally and spiritually.

  • We created a visible witness in the community, to employees, customers, and suppliers.

TRANSFORMATIONAL, SUSTAINABLE & REPRODUCIBLE

We are creating an economy at the local level, where it has the greatest impact. We are giving people a chance at life and helping them improve their current conditions. By generating incremental opportunities for people who need a job, we are directly impacting the economic realities that contribute to social injustices and poverty.
